The current week's blurbs will appear here early in the school week.

Week of May 19, 2008

DISCOVERY - This week the Discovery gifted students will continue to have daily grammar lessons.  We will be focusing on prepositions for the remainder of the school year.  The students will be performing preposition songs next week.  This is always a fun project, and I look forward to watching their performances.  Students will also complete another Word Within a Word unit.  I will also be taking time each day to answer questions about book talks. Presentations will take place the week of June 2nd!

We have completed our presententions on the differences among a fairy tale, a folk tale, a myth, a fable, a tall tale, and a fantasy story.  We will continue to read the classic Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.

Writer's Workshop will be moving to the Collaboratory this week.  By this Friday, May 16th, the students needed to have a draft of their second review posted to the internet.  They should complete editing each others' reviews online by Wednesday, May 21st.  Review #2 is due Friday, May 23, 2008!

****Once again, I suggested that the gifted students complete their review on a book that they have read for their independent reading contract as this is an assignment also required for their reaidng contract as well as Writer's Workshop.  They have been given the okay to "double dip" this assignment.****  If a student needs to complete a third review for the reading contract book review, it should be submitted by Friday, May 30th!

Reading Contract Logs are due Friday, May 30th!

*New trimester three reading contracts were handed out!  Students should be reading to attempt to reach their page goals at this time.  They should also be locating a historical fiction book.  Some book recommendations have been linked from the home page of my website.  The book review due date will be May 30th! They can "double-dip" this assignment with Review #1 or Reveiw #2, or they can write three reviews.  In this case the book review is due by Friday, May 30th!  The book talk presentations will be the week of June 2nd!  *Sign ups have begun.  See my home page for details.
